Exciting news for the Fairfax District! The FIA has approved funding to significantly enhance district-wide security. Using Transportation Development District (TDD) funds and a generous contribution from General Motors, FIA is partnering with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD) to install a new, state-of-the-art camera network across the district.

The TDD is a special taxing district established several years ago by the Unified Government (UG) to support funding projects in the Fairfax District. New properties developed within this special taxing district in the northeast corner of Fairfax contribute an additional percentage in property taxes for seven years, which goes into the TDD fund. These funds are designated for infrastructure district improvement projects such as signage and now—security cameras. (The same TDD previously funded the Fairfax Monument Entrance Signage Towers.)
About the Project
Total Investment: Approximately $150,000 from the TDD plus $38,500 from GM
Ownership & Maintenance: KCKPD
Connection: Cameras integrated directly with KCKPD’s Real-Time Intelligence Crime Center (RTICC)
Coverage: Comprehensive monitoring across the entire Fairfax District
The system will include multiple camera types for maximum visibility and data capture
- License Plate Readers (Genetec SharpV): Capture vehicle plates and metadata
- PTZ Cameras (Axis Q6135): Remote control for targeted monitoring
- Quad-Lens Cameras (Axis Q6100): Full 360° coverage
- Dual-Lens Cameras (Axis P4707): Multiple angles in a single unit
Cameras will be installed at key intersections and existing fiber infrastructure at these sites will be leveraged for efficient implementation
Why This Matters
This investment will make the Fairfax District the most extensively monitored area in Wyandotte County, giving law enforcement real-time visibility to respond quickly to incidents, track vehicles, and improve overall district safety.
