Recent update from Ryan Barrett, KDOT Metro Engineer:
KDOT’s contractor is making progress on the bridge repairs and bridge re-deck, but it has been slower than anticipated due to delays related to working with the Union Pacific Railroad trains running below the bridge.
KDOT will not be able to open the K-5 bridge over the UP Railroad as previously anticipated by 12/31/2025. Please know that KDOT is doing everything they can to get this bridge rehabilitated and open to traffic as soon as possible.
Since we are heading into winter, KDOT is currently working through scenarios with our contractor (Clarkson Construction) on when we believe the remaining work can be completed and cured out to open to traffic. We will have a better update sometime in mid-December on when we believe the K-5 bridge can be opened to unrestricted traffic.
