We want to make Fairfax businesses aware of an individual who has recently been entering businesses in the Fairfax District without permission, including through loading dock areas. There have also been reports of the individual using business facilities, potentially taking food, and loitering around properties.
The individual has been identified by KCKPD as Cedric Gibson. He is described as an African American male, approximately 6’0″ to 6’2″ tall, with a very slow walking gait.
Mr. Gibson was arrested on Tuesday, September 1, after entering a Fairfax business without permission and riding his bicycle through the loading area. KCKPD has advised him that he is not permitted to enter or remain on private business property without authorization.
If you see this individual on your business property without authorization, please contact KCKPD at 913-596-3000 (non-emergency) or 911 in an emergency. Please do not confront him.
KCKPD is also encouraging businesses to pursue trespassing charges when appropriate. Because an individual cannot legally be prohibited from using public streets and sidewalks, addressing unauthorized entry onto private property requires the affected business to pursue a trespassing complaint.
If officers respond and your business wishes to pursue charges, please make that clear to the responding officer. A representative of the business will generally need to appear in court as the complainant. We understand this may be an inconvenience, but KCKPD has advised that pursuing charges is the legal remedy available when someone enters private business property without permission.
Please share this information with appropriate employees, particularly those working around loading docks, entrances, and other areas where unauthorized access may occur.
Thank you for helping keep the Fairfax District safe. If you have questions, please contact Officer Sachen at dsachen@kckpd.org.
