Meet Michael Youngs

Plant Director, General Motors Fairfax Assembly and Stamping

For Michael Youngs, the world of automotive manufacturing is one that is both familiar and foundational to his career with General Motors. As a 30-year GM veteran and 3rd generation employee, Michael has worked in, or with, almost every GM North American Manufacturing facility.

Michael began his career with GM in 1995 as a co-op student at Fairfax Assembly. Since then, Michael spent the first 20 years of his career in manufacturing, with a variety of roles such as maintenance group leader, production shift leader and area manager.

In 2016, Michael assumed the role as Quality Operations Director, where he led 47 of GM’s North American Manufacturing operations. In this role, Michael was responsible for the teams that set the standards and processes for every vehicle produced.

It was Michael’s collective experience at multiple facilities and working with teams across the globe that ultimately prepared him to assume his current role as Fairfax Assembly Plant Director. A position he has held since August 2022.

In his current role, Michael leads the operations and workforce at Fairfax. Together, the team there is preparing for production of the Chevrolet Bolt to deliver one of the most affordable all-electric vehicles with an improved driving, charging and ownership experience.

Michael graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

In his spare time, Michael enjoys spending time with his family, woodworking and being outdoors.
