Meet Mayor Christal Watson
Christal Watson is a trailblazing leader whose career reflects growth, innovation, and deep community impact. She began her professional journey in corporate America, developing strong skills in organizational management, operations, and communications.
Her passion for community and economic empowerment led her to serve as CEO of the Heartland Black Chamber of Commerce, where she expanded membership, strengthened programs, and helped position Black-owned businesses for long-term success.
She later brought her business and nonprofit expertise into public service at the Mayor’s Office of Kansas City, Kansas, focusing on neighborhood and small-business development and strengthening collaboration across the community.
In 2025, she was elected Mayor and CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, becoming the first Black woman to hold the role in county history.
She has been married for 37 years, raised four sons, and remains committed to building a stronger, more connected Wyandotte County for every family.
