Spring is here! With the weather warming up, the Unified Government (UG) SOAR program and Fairfax Industrial Association (FIA) want to reach back out to you all concerning property maintenance. In November, UG staff went to every business in Fairfax to share information about property expectations. We talked to a lot of people, but you might have also seen a bag and flyer left on your door if no one was available when we visited. The flyer we shared is below:
FIA and SOAR understand that it’s been a long, hard winter and you probably haven’t been able to address any property maintenance issues yet. That’s okay! This post is a friendly reminder that now that the weather is warming up, we would like you to start planning how you want to address any issues. Common property maintenance issues include:
• Overgrown grass and weeds
• Poor lighting
• Chipping paint
• Gravel without dust control
• Broken windows
• Broken or improper signage
• Damaged fences
• Sidewalks with weeds or trash
Next Steps
So why does this matter to you? First of all, we give a huge THANK YOU to anyone who addressed property concerns already. For those of you who have not had the opportunity to do so yet, please resolve the property maintenance issues at your business in 60 days after notification OR create an action plan and communicate it with Code Enforcement within 60 days.
We understand that certain projects require a lot more time, money, and planning than others. If you cannot resolve issues within 60 days, that’s okay! Simply come up with a realistic plan to resolve issues and communicate that with your Code Enforcement officer.
If you do not resolve the issues or contact Code Enforcement within 60 days, we will have to initiate the code violation process for any violations found on your property. We would much rather work with you before it comes to that!
Letters will be going out this week to any business that was noted having a codes violation from the November visit.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Bill Behm, WYCO Code Enforcement Officer at wbehm@wycokck.org or Melissa Clark, FIA Executive Director at execdir@fiakck.org
