Great news! Media relations expert, commercial and voice-over talent, spokesperson, media coach and consultant and social media storyteller—Joel Nichols has worn many hats over 30 years of telling countless Kansas City stories on television and radio. To add ‘one more hat’ to his extensive collection, we are excited to have Joel Nichols emcee this year’s Fairfax Festival.
To pull an excerpt from this bio: He had his first broadcasting job under his belt (or was that his diaper?) by age three. His dad ran the local radio station in his small Wisconsin town where Joel did little announcements and was paid in Oreos and chocolate milk. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Joel was a legislative aide before finding himself on a local TV station doing feature stories and weekend weather. Moving to Kansas City, he became part of the first morning news program in town, FirstNews, alongside the amazing Maria Antonia. That was the start of a wonderful ride that included hosting a kids’ show called JellyBeans, a public affairs program, an interview program, and so many other shows about the great things in Kansas City. More recently, Joel co-hosted a mid-morning show called Kansas City Live, a late-night show called Nichols at Night, and live features for the early morning news. Joel has been a part of the local radio scene and moderator for hundreds of business-related webinars and tele-seminars and it’s been his honor to work with many charitable and community-minded people on hundreds of wonderful projects. Joel and his wife, Jessica, are grateful to have raised their four children here and feel fortunate to call Kansas City home.
