Some recent updates on select construction projects in the Fairfax district:
K5 Bridge:
• Plans are currently in development for a bridge re-deck/repair for the K-5 bridge over the UP Railroad.
• A supplemental bridge inspection on the existing bridge occurred the week of November 13-17, 2023.
• A field review of the preliminary plans for the bridge re-deck/repair of the K-5 bridge over the UP Railroad occurred on December 13, 2023.
• KDOT’s design consultant has engaged the UP Railroad in early plan review and coordination for the upcoming project.
• KDOT is on track for a late summer/early fall bid letting for the K-5 bridge re-deck/repair over the UP Railroad.
• The target date of K5 bridge being back open is end of 2025
Sunshine Road:
• The Kansas Gas Service work on Sunshine from Brinkerhoff to Fairfax Trafficway is expected to be completed mid-March.
• The work from McCormick to 7th St on Sunshine is projected to be completed in early April.
• After these two projects are completed, all of the Kansas Gas construction will be completed.
Fairfax Trafficway Construction:
• The section of lane closed on southbound Fairfax Trafficway is still on the UG’s schedule to be repaired and reopened.
• There were some delays but repairs and re-opening is planned for this spring of 2024.
Streetlights: KCKPD has just recently done a street light check and BPU will work on repairing any street lights currently out. If you see any lights out after a few weeks, please report on MyWyCo app as well.
Potholes: With the round of cold weather last month, potholes have surfaced everywhere including in the Fairfax district. If you do encounter a pothole, simply turn to the myWyCo mobile App. It’s an easy way to report any issues while on the go.
