Keeping you informed, here are some updates related to road closures and repairs within our district.
FAIRFAX TRAFFICWAY UPDATE
This lane on Fairfax Trafficway was closed due to infrastructure issues a few years ago. FIA has been working with the Unified Government on getting this repaired and reopened. The schedule to get this done has now been moved up to this year. Current plans are to start construction early this summer and be done late this summer. FIA will keep you informed as this project moves forward.
HIGHWAY K5
One of the north/east bound lanes on K5 coming into Fairfax was closed due to serious structure issues. One of our business residents popped his tire on this “pothole” that you can see all the way through. FIA immediately contacted UG Public Works and Troy Shaw with UG Public Works got with KDot who is responsible for this bridge and highway and the lane was immediately closed within a few hours of being notified. We appreciate Troy getting this done so quickly! The entire bridge is in bad shape and KDot is reviewing what will be done. FIA will notify you once a decision has been made.
7th Street Bridge
FIA has also been keeping an eye on eroding support beams on the 7th Street Bridge just south of Funston Rd. FIA has had KDot out to look at off and on (along with the K5 bridge) over the last several years and it is on their long list of roads and bridges in need of repair. FIA will be visiting again with KDot on the safety of this bridge and keep you informed.
