Thank you to all those members who attended our FIA luncheon on February 9th with Mayor Tyrone Garner. Also in attendance was Commissioner Tom Burroughs, Commissioner Melissa Bynum, Commissioner Mike Kane, Commissioner Chuck Stites and Commissioner Gayle Townsend.
Held at the Fairfax Fire Station, this was a symbolic event as it represented the reopening after its closing in July 2020 due to Unified Government budget cuts. FIA along with many businesses in Fairfax strongly opposed the closing of our station.
During its closing, FIA received quarterly response times and found that these NFPA required times could not be met without our fire station operating in Fairfax. FIA asked the mayor and the commission to review these stats and remember the promise that these times could be met without our Fairfax station. Mayor Garner and the commission reviewed this information and figured out a way in the budget to re-open our station.
The Fairfax Fire Station officially re-opened in Nov 2022. It is fully manned 24/7. This fire station is important to our district as we have over 10,0000 people working in Fairfax daily that are often heavy industrial jobs in a district that stores and uses highly hazardous materials. Meeting NFPA response times is critical.
FIA appreciates Mayor Garner and the commission’s efforts, support and dedication in getting our Fairfax Fire Station re-opened!
Finally, thank you to our luncheon sponsor, Empire Candle and for providing two (2) fabulous candle gift baskets as door prizes.
